Jucy Lucy vs Juicy Lucy

Two hot buns with a  piece of cheese inside the meat and cooked until it melts.  Inside it is a gushing juices of cheese and molten cheese. This is Minneapolis’ very own Jucy Lucy. Downtown Minneapolis has a lot of great food places to go but the most iconic ones are 5-8 Club and Matt’s Bar. Both places claimed to have invented the Minnesota-pride sandwich but they differ themselves by their spelling of the the dish. Matt’s Bar decided to get rid of the “i” in juicy, resulting in jucy, while 5-8 Club kept the spelling right and leave in the “i”.

Both places try to convince other that their way of naming is the correct way resulting in some amusing banter between the two. Staff at 5-8 Club wear shirt that says “if it’s spelled right, it’s done right” while Matt’s Bar proud themselves in their misspelling by saying “Remember, if it is spelled correctly, you are eating a shameless rip-off!”
Our very own Lucy has gone to travel to many different parts of the world. in Garden Grove, CA you can get the “West Coast version” of the burger. In Lebanon they called it “Cheese-At-Heart” and modified it to contain cheddar cheese, lettuce, and potato chips. Lucy was also brought all the way to Barcelona, Spain with fillings of blue cheese, bacon, and sauteed mushrooms (yum!). In 2012, Lucy went even further this time to France and modified with  a Roquefort cheese center.

Minneapolis’s own Lucy is going around the world. Where will it go next?? We’ll just have to wait and see.
