IRON COUNTY WI

General Info

Iron County was created in 1893 from Ashland and Oneida Counties, and it was named for the iron deposits near the lake. It usually gets around 200 inches of snow annually. There are  over 500 miles of snowmobile trails and 175,000 acres of forests. Hurley is the county seat. Iron County is located in northwest Wisconsin and has a population of nearly 6,000.
